Sharla Dowding
Sharla Dowding is a chemistry and biology teacher as well as a District Department Chair at Newcastle High School in Newcastle , Wyoming since 1997. Since that same time she has been a biology instructor at Eastern Wyoming College . Sharla received a Bachelor's of Science from Chadron State College in 1991. She received a Master's of Art in science education at CSC in 1995. and is currently working on an EDD through the Center for Learning and Teaching at Montana State University .
As a member of the NSTA , Sharla was a Congress delegate from 2001-200 5 . She is a member of the NSTA Publication Committee, and has served on the NSTA workshop /awards judging panel.
Sharla was awarded as the Wyoming Biology Teacher of the Year in 2004. She received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching in 2000. She was the president of the Wyoming Science Teacher Association (WSTA) from 2002-2004. She was also a Wyoming Conference Presenter (1999-200 6 ), a WSTA conference planning committee member (2001-200 7 ), a Nebraska Panhandle Math & Science Coalition Board Member (1993-1997), a Radio Shack/Tandy Technology Teaching Scholar '99, a NSTA/DOW Chemistry Teaching Award recipient (1997), a Woodrow Wilson National Leadership Institute for Teachers participant (1996), a member of the Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board and Standards Committee Member (2002-200 6 ), a NEW (NASA Educational Workshop) Participant (2000), a ACS-Wyoming Section Chemistry Teacher of the Year award winner (2001), a Wyoming WebGate Lesson Plan Award recipient (2003), a Nebraska Department of Energy Outreach Grant recipient (1997), a USWest Teacher Technology trainer (1998). Sharla authored four publications about effective teaching strategies. She has been a NSTA member since 1992 and a WSTA member since 1997. Sharla has been a coach for the Science Olympiad and the Science Quiz Bowl since 1993.
